Body & Soul Festival
So here is the summer and festival season gets underway.
The road signs all pointed out to Ballinlough Castle, Co Westmeath… campervans and tents ready thousands set out for a weekend of good vibe music, fun and of course, drinking and who knows what..
The lineup was grand, with the likes of M83, Django Django, Little Dragon, Spiritualized, St Vincent and WhoMadeWho.
I could only attend the Sunday gigs, maybe next time I will take my tent too and stay the whole weekend
Here follow some shots, on assigment for State.ie :
Heineken Green Spheres – Simian Mobile Disco and Erol Alkan
Double duty last weekend on assignment for Heineken Music.
The plan was to head down to Cork city and shoot the Heineken Green Spheres. This was a two night lineup, selected venue was The Savoy Theater. Both nights were sold out, so I heard. In case you don’t know the tickets are free, but getting them can be difficult as the are offered online only, and it’s first come first served basis. So stay on the lookout in their site www.heinekenmusic.ie for the next gigs… Dublin is the next location :)

Kaidi Tatham & Bounce @ Love and Death, Inc
Mathew ‘Elvis’ Ellis (Even Split) called in.. ‘Luis, how bout going to Belfast for Kaidi’s gig?’… after a few q&a about the gig, and learning who Kaidi is, and what he has done before, I promptly decided to tag along. We set out to the North in a full moon evening, the night was clear and road wasnt busy.. in a couple of hours we were there and checked-in at the local Travelogde Belfast.
After a few calls and waiting we meet Pete, who was taking us to the venue ‘Love and Death, Inc’, which is located in the very centre of the city.
There we found Kwa Daniels (manager at Bounce that put the gig up), Leroy Culture and Paul. We got there in time for the sound-check and last bites of dinner… that gave me some time to setup my lights peacefully and to observe a few details in the venue, which is decorated beautifully as you can see below.
Then the DJ’ing started while we all got in the mood for the feast of tunes that would follow, served by Leroy, with touches of ecletic and vibrant sounds that Kaidi had to offer. What can I say: Congas, Keys & Synth as well as the flute, Kaidi mastered it all. You wouldn’t believe how he can blend his sounds into the tunes, boosting their effect over the dance floor.
Be sure to visit Kaidi Myspace page and do yourself a favor and listen to ‘Feed the Cat’.
Oh, and congrats for Bounce and Kwa who are celebrating their 11th anniversary!!
Ghostpoet photos at The Grand Social, Dublin
Last night Dublin was visited by Ghostpoet.
The UK based rapper is a rising star (he was recently selected as one of the artists of the year by Gilles Peterson – BBC Radio) and you could tell that easily. The gig at The Grand Social was a great success, with engenious beats and lyrics and a great guitarist. A truly inspired rapper which had a great stage presence and the crowd in his control. The rather short gig covered tunes from the new album “Ghostpoet – Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam” which is available in vinyl/cd from Brownswood Recordings. The label and artist have offered some tunes for FREE download, check it out here or via the player below.
UPDATE: Red Bull Music Academy published the recording from the show and I got one photo displayed in their coverage of the gig!
