Body & Soul Festival
So here is the summer and festival season gets underway.
The road signs all pointed out to Ballinlough Castle, Co Westmeath… campervans and tents ready thousands set out for a weekend of good vibe music, fun and of course, drinking and who knows what..
The lineup was grand, with the likes of M83, Django Django, Little Dragon, Spiritualized, St Vincent and WhoMadeWho.
I could only attend the Sunday gigs, maybe next time I will take my tent too and stay the whole weekend
Here follow some shots, on assigment for State.ie :
New heights with the Nikon D800
The new Nikon D800 is a superb HD-SLR.
Released in 22nd March 2012 I was lucky enough to get one of the first productions units and have been taking it thru its first paces.
A more in-depth review is due, but for now here is one capture from this weekends gig in the O2 Dublin.
For now I can shortly summarize it as the most powerfull HD-SLR available, which is challenging to shoot with, given its 36 Megapixel sensor resolution.
Photos come out really good straight-out-of-cammera (SOOC!) and the video capabilities are un-matched in this segment.
Labrinth was the supporting act for Drake, in a ‘quasi’ sold out O2. The performance was good and the crowd was having a good time.
Here is one my favorite photo from the gig, taken with the Nikon 14-24mm @ f/2.8 1/160 ISO400, Auto-WB (shot in .JPG configured to optimal quality, sRGB):

And here is a 100% crop (400px wide).

Nikon 24-70mm @ f/2.8 1/100 ISO800, Shot in Jpg, Quality priority, Large size / Fine.

More pics and comments to come!
Faces Of 2012
Back in December I meet Simon Bird for a portrait shoot assignment for State.ie annual issue, Faces of 2012, which highlights the best music artists in the Irish scene.
Simon is a music producer who has put out some distinct tracks recently and got the attention of State.ie editors.
This time my assignment was not a live music performance, but a dedicated shoot 1-to-1 with the artist. I did a bit of researching and listened to Simon tracks to get a feeling and some inspiration/ideas for the portrait.
Turns out that the day was overcast but with colorful breaks of light. This created a dramatic feeling that matches Simon music work and we were both happy with the results.
Here is a screenshot of page where the portrait is featured:

… or just read the full issue:
And here you can listen to the artists featured in Faces of 2012
Heineken Green Spheres – The Drums in Dublin
Heineken Green Spheres lands in Dublin
Lineup is very very good:
The Drums, Aloe Blacc, Wild Beats and SBTRKT, plus supporting bands like Cloud Control.

The gig was excellent, really nice lineup and a devoted crowd made a really good show.
The Drums are a band to keep under your music-radar, they are going strong!
Here are some preview photos from The Drums at The Village yesterday.
Here is the video of the event sposonred by Heineken Music.
Lastly, I was trying out some new stuff, here is a 3D panorama of The Village before the gig started.
Heineken Green Spheres – Simian Mobile Disco and Erol Alkan
Double duty last weekend on assignment for Heineken Music.
The plan was to head down to Cork city and shoot the Heineken Green Spheres. This was a two night lineup, selected venue was The Savoy Theater. Both nights were sold out, so I heard. In case you don’t know the tickets are free, but getting them can be difficult as the are offered online only, and it’s first come first served basis. So stay on the lookout in their site www.heinekenmusic.ie for the next gigs… Dublin is the next location :)
